"Do I Stand Alone?" by Jesse Ventura

  • The greatest threat to our political freedom is not the career politicians, the partisan gang wars, or the power-hungry lobbyists. It’s the apathetic public that allows them to flourish!
  • The more levels of government you allow to get involved in spending your money, the more of your money will be spent.
  • Legislation can’t create morality.
  • We need to separate in our collective minds the difference between laws and morals so that every one's freedom is protected.
  • The government is not a bottomless pit of wealth.
  • Anytime government has money to give away, it’s because it was taken from somebody else.
  • Dependence on the government tends to encourage more dependence on the government.
  • The press doesn’t mind omitting facts in order to create a scandal.
  • If you’re making the tabloids with all their lies, that’s when you know you’ve made it big.
  • There is no way to make life fair. Nobody can do it, especially not the government. It isn’t the government’s job to make sure you get a fair shake out of life. When we start asking government to do that, we’re asking the impossible.
  • Dependence on government engenders more dependence on government, and discourages self-reliance.
  • It’s very easy for us to forget that every dollar that is given to someone who isn’t working was taken from someone who is.
  • Abortions don’t stop just because they’re made illegal. They simply go underground, where they become far more dangerous.
  • Drug addiction is a health problem; it should be treated medically, not criminally.
  • Prisons should be reserved for violent criminals.
  • No one should be prosecuted for what they think or say, unless it results in illegal conduct -- then you prosecute them for the action.
  • Today’s government often penalizes those citizens who behave well and rewards those who misbehave.
  • Government policy should always be guided by what is ultimately best for the people.
  • Governments are corrupt be default. It’s only by the conscious effort of the people that they are kept in line.
  • Kids’ needs must come before adults’ needs, because kids can’t take care of their own needs yet.
  • Being a responsible adult means you do what you have to do whether you’re enjoying it or not.
  • Rest assured, if you go into politics, you’re going to get pounced on. The media will do whatever it takes to dig up dirt and create a scandal.
  • If you’re dependent upon government, you’re not a free person.
