- Slapping [the mat] correctly cushions the fall and absorbs the shock. Reaching for the mat or slapping at the incorrect angle may cause strain or dislocation of the joints. To develop the correct form, the side-to-side exercise is a must because it trains the coordination of the body, hands, feet, and legs.
- Side-to-Side Drill
- Begin with your left side on the mat.
- Flip your body by scissoring your legs in the air, and
- land on your right side, slapping with your right arm.
- Flip your body back to the left side and slap with your left arm.
- Repeat several times
- Basic Wrist Extension Exercise
- The basic wrist extension utilizes a simultaneous pull/push action. Pull with your little finger first then push with your thumbs, and follow with the others. At the same time, extend your forearms to add extra power to the movement.
- A beautifully muscled body is a showcase of scientific and diligent training, but no matter how muscular a person is, his body has many built-in physical weaknesses and vulnerable areas that can be attacked to weaken him.
- In the techniques of small-circle jujitsu, more emphasis is put on attacking the tendons than on attacking the nerves.
- The nose is the most vulnerable target. Almost any kind of strike will break the nose.
- Any kind of hand strike can very easily break the collarbone.
- Even a light strike to the solar plexus can temporarily paralyze the diaphragm and severely inhibit breathing.
- Injuring the knee from the front requires very little pressure.
- A kick to the calf is an excellent technique for momentarily paralyzing that muscle.
- Wrist locks are about the most common techniques among the various martial arts.
- Knowing when to apply the technique is as important as knowing how. The proper moment to begin application is when the assailant reaches toward you.
- When applying joint locks, a skilled technician uses minimal strength to subdue an assailant while the beginner or poorly trained technician will tend to use an unnecessary amount of force. Using a minimum of force is important because joint locks can be extremely damaging and you do not want to go beyond what is necessary to subdue and restrain your assailant.
- In practice remember also that some people are born with an ability to withstand a lot of pain. Because of this, you may mistakenly exert the full force before the student feels compelled to submit.
- Some victims will feel little or no pain during the hold, and yet, a dislocation may have occurred.
- When attacked, there are times when you must hurt your attacker to the point of painful dislocation. If this must be done to save yourself, do not hesitate.
- Finger locks are very effective and can be applied with very little effort.
